Citizen of the Week

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

"Uncle" Richard Piel is this week's Citizen of the Week. His nominator writes, "After moving to Eureka, Uncle Richard volunteered to work at the Good Shepherd Doggie Thrift Shop. He was the first to arrive and the last to leave, every working day, despite being a relatively young 83 years old. Richard retired last October. He is sorely missed by his coworkers and all of his four-legged beneficiaries at the animal shelter. Thanks, Uncle Richard, for your shining example of volunteerism." [Editor's note: see pg. 11 for a closer look at Uncle Richard's legacy.]
