Roy Freeman Newborn of Berryville died on Feb. 28 in Berryville at the age of 86. He was born on May 2, 1923 in Cairo, Miss. to Rutherford Hayes and Rosa (Wheeler) Newborn.
Roy was a resident of Berryville for 28 years. Prior to that he was a Hayward, Calif. resident. Roy was a retiree of the Navy Civil Service. He served his country in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He worked 24 years at the Great Passion Play, Art Gallery and Bible Museum.
He is beloved by his wife Joy of 58 years, and daughters Priscilla and Carol. On Sept. 28, 1952 he married Joy Williams who survives him of the home. Survivors also include two daughters, Priscilla Newborn and Carol Newborn both of Berryville; one sister, Jewell Smith of Tenn.; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services were held on March 4 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville with Pastor Marvin Smith officiating.
