Winifred D. Mayfield, formerly of Blackwell, Okla., died on March 27 at the Brighton Ridge Nursing Home in Eureka Springs at the age of 92.
Mayfield was born on Oct. 15, 1917 in Coffeyville, Kan. to Charles Frank and Anna (Fisher) Beal. On March 23, 1935 she married Ivan Mayfield in Neosho, Mo. and they settled in Blackwell. In 1944 they moved to Guymon, Okla. before moving to Wichita, Kan. in 1945.
In 1951 she began working for the Coleman Company. She retired on May 1, 1982, following 31 years of service. Following her retirement they moved to Nardin, Okla. to make their home and in 1988 moved to Blackwell.
Her husband preceded her in death in January of 1997 and she continued to make Blackwell her home until 2001 when she moved to be near family in Holiday Island. She was a member Holiday Island Baptist Church and enjoyed the many church activities. She also held membership in the Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by four daughters, Belinda Stracke of Kansas City, Mo., Ivona Darge and husband Allen of Holiday Island, Sally Fischer and husband Roger of Seneca, S.C. and Anna Rogers of Sachse, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Albert Mayfield; a sister, Helen Ashley; and two brothers, Leon and Vern Beal.
Graveside services were held on April 1 in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Okla., with Rev. James Colwell of Holiday Island Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Honorary casketbearers were Bart Stracke, Bret Stracke, Todd Turner, Ty Turner, Clint Turner, Stephen Larkin, Lance Stracke and Karl Rogers.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the Holiday Island Baptist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631.
