Kenneth Dale Scates, 69, of Busch, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at his home. He was born July 18, 1940 in Carroll County, Arkansas the son of Zona Baker Scates and William L. Scates.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a charter member of the "Bushwackers" playing music locally. He worked as a fishing guide on the White River, in construction, built houses, did masonry and on construction of Beaver Dam. He was a volunteer fireman for 21 years at Inspiration Point Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Orville and Neal Scates; four sisters, Martha Evans, Lottie Schellhorn, Mae Russell and Bertha Scates.
Kenneth is survived by his wife whom he married May 25, 1962, Helen Harley Scates, of the home; one son, Shawn Scates and his wife Betty, of Busch; and one brother, Richard T. Scates and his wife Jane, of Bentonville.
Funeral services were held on March 29 at Beaver Lake Baptist Church in Eureka Springs with Pastor Mike Mercer officiating. Interment followed at Gaskins Switch Cemetery.
Pallbearers included: Joe Dale Robinson; Sonny Brent; Alan Moon; Marvin Dowell; Wylie Noland; and Leland Tackett.
Honorary Pallbearers included: Charlie Weston; Wayne Moon; Doug Culver; Thirl Mackey; Danny Scates; and Bert Camp.
