Charles "Opa" Hayden Dykes
Charles "Opa" Hayden Dykes, a resident of Holiday Island, was born Jan. 21, 1930 in Okmulgee, Okla., a son of Charles and Clara (Harelson) Dykes. He died on April 7 in Eureka Springs at the age of 80.
Mr. Dykes was of the Christian Faith. Charles received a Bachelor of Science from McNeese State University. He served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He made a career with Conoco Oil Company. He retired from Conoco as the manager of offices and services of the southern region. He worked as a night auditor and bookkeeper for the New Orleans Hotel.
On March 11, 1951 Charles married BB Hollingsworth who survives him of the home. He is also survived by three daughters, Dawn Gadeberg, Katelyn Bergen-Dykes and Hailey Dykes; two brothers, Donald Dykes and wife Ruth and David Dykes and wife Ruth; two sisters, Mary and husband Sam Warnock and Marty Rausin; three grandchildren, Brian Gadeberg and wife Gracie, Shelley and husband Kevin Wilburn and B. Kyle Gadeberg; eight great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bergan-Dykes, Peyton Troillett, Hailey Dykes, Byran McIntosh, Annalise Gadeberg, Marian Troillett, Brodie Gadeberg and Isley Gadeberg; and two adopted families, Larry and Monika Troillett and Jimmy and Teresa McIntosh; several other relatives; and a multitude of friends.
Mr. Dykes was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Darrell Rausin.
Memorial services were held on April 10 at Nelson's Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs with Rev. Stan Adams officiating. Graveside services were held on April 12 at the Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake, La. with Rev. Northen officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery.
