Phyl Shimaka lost her long battle with breast and brain cancer, and transitioned in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday, May 2, at Brighton Ridge, with her friends Bev Wilkinson and Carol Brommer at her bedside.
Phyl moved to Eureka Springs from Colorado 14 years ago, and made friends quickly and easily, and gave the best hugs in town. Many will remember her from the computer business she started here, Geek to Go, which she continued for several years until she became disabled. She was one of the original contributors to the Lovely County Citizen, and her column, The Bridges of Lovely County, established her as a strong woman with strong opinions.
She then initiated and ran a local online bulletin board, Bridging the Gap. She loved computer work, political discourse, Sudoku games, her Pekinese, Medi and Dudley, and Sunday lunches at Myrtie Mae's.
She is survived by a sister in Pennsylvania, and a multitude of friends in Eureka Springs and online friends throughout the country.
Cremation arrangements are being made through Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest. A memorial service is planned for late May/early June. Date and time will be announced as soon as final arrangements are made.
