Tom Wonner

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

A service for Tom Wonner, stepson of Rev. Bob Huston of Holiday Island, will be held at the Holiday Island Presbyterian Church, Memorial-Garden, Sunday, June 13, at 3:30 p.m.

Tom, a Merchant Mariner with Penn Maritime of Philadelphia, was stricken with a fatal heart attack while aboard ship off New York City Harbor. He is survived by Bob and a sister Cathy Wonner, Ventura, Calif., who will make the placement of the cremated remains.

Tom's cremains will be placed in a special niche in the columbarium, adjacent to his late mother, Lil (Phyllis) Huston, who died in 2004.

Tom, 52, was born in Baltimore, Md. and moved to California for all of his schooling through high school. He enlisted in the Navy and was discharged in 1979.

His entire working career was in marine operations of fishing, flight deck-hand, and oil transportation. He served as a Merchant Marine in the Persian Gulf during the early part of the Iraq war. He visited often at Holiday Island with his parents, and enjoyed golfing with his stepfather, Bob.

Tom was known to many residents of Holiday Island and Eureka Springs. The service, open to friends, will be conducted by Pastor Clare Kelley, with light refreshments to follow.
