Rob Clampitt, who lived in Eureka Springs for a year in 2009, died in a deep sea diving incident during an expedition to the Yukon. The incident is being investigated to determine his exact cause of death, as he was an advanced certified diver with no known health problems.
Clampitt was an accomplished cartoonist and photographer who said he loved the peace of the Ozarks, but also found it hard to be away from the ocean. He was born and raised in San Diego.
He retired from the U.S. Army after spending 15 months in Iraq where he was a Humvee driver.
Rob is survived by his mother, Carol Lee Carr of Eureka Springs; his father, John Clampitt of Coronado, Calif. and Maine; sister Cynthia Clampitt of Solana Beach, Calif.; sister Pamela Creef of Chesapeake, Va.; and special friend Tiffina Pierce of Eureka Springs.
Services will be held in California.
