Lyla Izella Knox Smith, of Berryville, daughter of Ada Olive (Archer) and Peter Dull, was born in Clifton, Kansas, January 8, 1918, and died Wednesday, Feb. 9, in Berryville, at 93.

Lyla married Frank Knox in the summer of 1934 in Clifton, Kansas. She was a homemaker, farmer's wife and worked as a clerk in Clay Center, Kansas. They moved to Berryville in 1959. She owned/operated Lyla's Café for several years, and worked in Berryville and Green Forest until she retired. Lyla married Carl Smith of Rudd on September 21, 1978.

Lyla is survived by sons, Richard Knox and wife, Ann, of Elizabeth City, N.C.; Kenneth Knox of Berryville; and Dennis Knox and wife, Lynn, of Conway, Ark.; granddaughters, Marcia and husband, Greg Young, of Hollister, Mo.; Anita and husband, Randy Gage, of Berryville; grandsons Christopher Knox and wife, Tracy, and Aaron Knox all of Conway, Ark.; one great-grandson, Jonathan Malone of Bellefonte, Ark.; nephew, Nolan Istas of Lane, Kansas; nieces, Donna Haight of Kansas and Shirley Higgenbotham of Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lyla was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Knox, and second husband, Carl Smith. She was also preceded by her parents, Ada and Peter Dull; sister, Hazel Randle; two half-brothers, John and Charlie Dull; one half-sister, Eva Lee; one granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Malone; two daughters-in-law, Fern and Laura Knox; special niece, Joy Marie Higginbotham and nephews, Dean Higginbotham and Steven Haight; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation is 5 -- 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral is 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Brother Kenny Asbury officiating. Interment at Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
