"Marcie Brewster has lived a rather quiet and reclusive life working the land in the backwoods of Carroll County, so it came as a surprise that she stepped into the limelight several weeks ago when she tried to garner enough signatures to place her on the ballot for board of directors of her local electric cooperative.

"Marcie garnered more than 1300 petition signatures and also attempted to submit her credentials to the cooperative's nominating committee.

"Her decision to do so illustrates that we must never give up nor give in to complacency. This nominator is grateful that Marcie stepped out of her comfort zone and sowed a seed for democracy."
