Wizard of Oz auditions

Auditions will be held for Soul Motion Studio's production of the Wizard of Oz Friday, Jan 27 3:30 -- 5 p.m. Open to children ages 6 --15, and students must enroll in a weekly theatre production class.

Students need to prepare a short memorized monologue and character analysis of the main part they want to audition for. There is a $5 script fee. Please be on time. For more info please contact (479) 981-3947. Performance will be held Spring 2012.

*Umbrella decorating - Krazo-sponsored Umbrella Decorating sessions will take place at the New Delhi Café for three Wednesdays beginning Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. Umbrellas and decorations supplied courtesy Krewe of Krazo. Come out and greet the 2012 Royal Court and King and Queen and join in the joyful 2nd Line dancing on Main Street.

*Barkus and Meoux - The National Krewe of Barkus organization has granted permission for the formation of a Eureka Springs Krewe of Barkus and Meoux.

We welcome anyone to costume up and walk a dog or dance with us in the Mardi Gras Parade and join in the fun the afternoon of February 18.

Wine and cinema

Keels Creek Winery will be showing "Cinema Paradiso" (Italian with English subtitles) at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. The movie has won many awards including the BAFTA Film Award, Academy Award, and Grand Prize at Cannes Film Festival.

The story is about a filmmaker who recalls his childhood when he fell in love with the movies and formed a deep friendship with the village theater's projectionist. Limited seating -- please RSVP at Keels Creek Winery (479) 253-9463 or email

Early birds get the discount

An ESSA Early Bird registration discount is available now through March 1. Register for any 5-day adult workshop and receive a $50 discount on tuition (cannot be combined with any other discount).

Grandmother Arla offers two workshops

Primal Energy Workshop, Saturday, Jan 28, 1 -- 5 p.m. Arla works with the wisdom of The Grandmothers, and channels and works with primal energies. Through teachings, instruments and song, we will learn to call in the Primal Energy Vibrations.

Basketmaking Workshop -- Cherokee Style double wall basketmaking workshop, Sunday Jan. 29, 10 a.m. -- 4 p.m.

Grandmother Arla has been teaching for many years and her creative pursuits include jewelry making, rattles, leatherwork and Ancient Spirit Ancestors.

In this workshop, weave a Traditional Weave Cherokee-Style Double Wall basket.

Call in your own individual spiritual guidance to assist you in the creative process of your individual basket. Dress casually (you may get a little messy/wet) and bring towel, scissors, ruler, bucket or dishpan for water, and embellishments as you like (feathers, leather, beads etc).

HI Photogs meet

The Holiday Island Photo Guild will hold its 2012 planning meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 3 p.m. in the Island Room across from the Rec. Center on the Island. Please note the location change, only for the January meeting.

The Guild will choose potential field trips and speakers for the coming year. In addition, Marsha Havens, of Eureka Thyme, will make a brief presentation on working with the Eureka Springs art community.

Call for singersThe Ozarks Chorale will rehearse weekly at 7 p.m. at the Eureka Springs Middle School. Singers are encouraged to attend rehearsals to prepare for spring concerts.

The first spring concert is scheduled for May 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Aud in Eureka Springs. A second spring concert is planned with date and time to be announced.

Poetluck All are invited to attend the winter Poetluck at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow. Bring something delicious for the potluck dinner, and some of your writing to read for four minutes or less. More info: 253-6963.

ESSA is seeking works for the New Campus Gallery. Flaunt your creative muse in the Main Gallery overlooking the beautiful Ozarks. ESSA is also scheduling artists to perform demonstrations in the gallery on weekends, and is in the process of reaching out to prospective instructors for 2013. Acoustic jam(with peanut butter if you like)Come and jam from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday night at the 302 Restaurant in the Grand View Hotel on the Berryville Square.

The hootenanny/jam is happening every Friday. Bring acoustic instruments and join in the fun. The 302 Restaurant is open, so come on down -- you can still enjoy a great supper with toe-tappin' music, even if you don't play.
