Cecil Leon Weems, 88, of Garnett, Kan., passed away Sunday, May 20 at his home.
He was born August 2, 1923 at Eureka Springs, Ark., the son of George Walter and Luella (Pinkley) Weems. Cecil served in the United States Army during World War II.
He married Dorothy Annabelle Smith and this union was blessed with six children. She preceded him in death. He then married Luella Katherine Brown on September 20, 1965, in Miami, Okla., and this union was blessed with two children.
Cecil enjoyed hunting, restoring old cars and trucks, and taking road trips on his motorcycle. He was happiest when he was with his family.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Foster and Verlin; four sisters, Hazel, Virginia, Alta and Agnes; daughter, Cathie Jasper; and one grandson, Shawn Stipp.
He is survived by his wife, Lu Weems, of the home; five sons, Ron Weems and wife, Karen, of Ottawa, Kan.; Merle Weems and wife, Joyce, of Claremore, Okla.; Verle Weems and wife, Yvonne, of Lawrence, Kan.; Richard Weems and wife, Shirley, of Wellsville, Kan.; and Eric Weems of Garnett, Kan.; two daughters, Pattie Brown of Topeka, Kan.; Cecilie Stipp and husband, Jim, of Thayer, Kan.; and one step-daughter, Lu-Ann Woodard of Parker, Kan.; one brother, McKinley Weems and wife, Lola, of Eureka Springs, Ark.; one son-in-law, Jerry Jasper of Garnett, Kan.; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. The family will be present to greet friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6 -- 8 p.m.
