A brilliant jewel

To the citizens of Eureka Springs

I stayed on Beaver Lake recently in two wonderful cabins a week apart. The second stay was during the Blues Weekend when the most brilliant band in Arkansas, The Cate Brothers, played at the Basin Park Hotel.

During that second stay I had an emergency situation that required medical assistance. The immediate response from the owners of Beaver Lake Cabins, the EMTs from Grassy Knob Volunteer Fire Association who arrived immediately, the ambulance EMTs who arrived within minutes, and Dr. Bell, along with the nurses at Eureka Springs Hospital, was far beyond my expectations.

I have to admit that I doubt I would have received that immediate level of attention and care if I had been in my hometown of Little Rock. Eureka Springs is truly one of the jewels of Arkansas with brilliant, interesting, creative and genuinely caring citizens.

Thank you Eureka Springs.

Make 'em wear patches

The six Wal-Mart (Walton) heirs own more personal wealth than the bottom 30% of the American population, and rather than use the same federal income tax table as the working poor (up to 33% on the highest wages), they only pay at the capital gains tax rate (about 15%).

Republicans want the ultra wealthy 1% to pay even lower taxes for sitting around the pool waiting for their dividend checks to arrive.

The Republican dominated U.S. Supreme Court made what used to be called "bribery," legal. Corporate money is now called "Freedom Of Speech" because the same Supreme Court justices say corporations are persons and have the same right to free speech as humans.

The same Republican dominated Supreme Court also said that corporate lying is protected by "Freedom of Speech" except under oath in court. Go to www.movetoamend.org to sign the petition to remove corporate personhood and "big" money as free speech in politics.

Go to www.opensecrets.org and learn who gives how much to your legislators. It's eye opening! Our politicians should be required to wear corporate patches of their corporate "sponsors" like NASCAR drivers, so we know who "owns" them and their voices.

Thanks for caring

I wish to thank everyone for cards letters and calls to me on the behalf on my late wife Marylou Hicklin, and to those who attended her Celebration of Life Party June 3, it was very helpful at this time.

Volunteers rock

When you leave something nice and valuable behind you, it always feels good, right? Limestone steps from the soccer field level to the concession stand level were put down and finished recently by the Boy Scouts, their leaders, and volunteers from our community, city parks, and Soccer Club.

I was glad to meet new people with teaching skills and see friends there. A special thanks goes to Keaton Boardman and the Boy Scout leaders for proving we have real scouting in town. I appreciate the opportunity to be there and take part in this very worthwhile project with the Boy Scouts. Project well done. You Rock!

Where are we going here?

The bible, the first school textbook in the US colonies, teaches us that God made man, creating them male and female in his own likeness and image. Adam, by choice, chose not to live in the relationship God had established for him and fell short of God's grace being influenced by Satan to thwart God's purposes.

Satan's agenda has always been (since he sinned) to steal, kill and destroy, Adam and his offspring being his focus of destruction. The faithfulness of God has prevailed in that He, God, has provided redemption (salvation) through His Son, Jesus the Messiah, the mediator between God and Man.

The Apostle Paul speaks of God moving nations from place to place on the earth, setting borders and fixing their epochal duration of existence, so that they may learn about God, repent of their evil imaginations and be converted.

In America, God gave us the KJV Bible as a school textbook in 1642. In the Mayflower Compact, God gave us our historic, Biblical ancesteral heritage. He transformed men who produced the organic oracles that made life, liberty and pursuit of happiness available to all.

The promises/blessings come to us through the marriage relationship being transferred through the descendency of parents, male and female.

As two peas in a pod, both Obama and Joe Biden support homosexual relationships plus abortions aiding Satan's plan of destroying promises and blessings to Adam's offspring.

In 1973, the Supreme Court yielded their support to Satan's influence of abortion, now totaling 50 million innocent people.

With a little help from our friends

We are so thankful for the generosity, support and encouragement our community has shown to help our daughter, Indigo Fischer, attend the Interlochen Center for the Arts summer arts program.

Mary Dolce, Marie Sathrum, Jim Swiggart, and the Carroll County Music Group have quite graciously raised funds towards the expenses of this important opportunity for Indigo, and others in the future, to pursue these very special performance and learning experiences.

  • As to the Walton family, absolutely right, they are so wealthy they have no concept of we "little people". However, I do shop at Wal Mart on occasion. Also, Hart's quite often, has better prices for certain products. And as a meat eater, one can't beat the freshness of the gound beef, pork, and other goods.

Also, the produce is far better at Harts than at the Wal Mart store in Berryville.

For clothing, it is ok for underwear, etc., but for top quality I go to Dillards in Fayetteville for much better things.

  • I highly respect Marie Sathrum, and Jim Swiggart. In fact I played for the Ozark's Choral under his direction, In time, my arthritis in my fingers were an issue and thus, I resigned.

However, Opera in the Ozarks is fortunate to have Jim Swiggart and his wife, Janice, to help with the opera.
