The University of Arkansas Master Gardeners program recognized five Carroll County Master Gardeners for their service last weekend.

On Saturday, Faye Martin and Linda Rogers of Eureka Springs and Mary Knight, Karen Wall and Jennifer Hudspeth of Berryville were awarded the UA Master Gardener 5-year pin along with a 5-year certificates for their continued service throughout the community.

Each of these women attended training sessions at UA, once a week for a month, were tested and then gave 40 hours of gardening volunteer service throughout their community to receive their Master Gardener status.

"You have to work to maintain membership and we all put in so much service and have done so for five years. It's an honor to receive this award," said Knight.

The UA Master Gardeners sponsor events that support city beautification, youth gardening and plant therapy.

Arkansas adopted the Master Gardener program in 1988 in four counties and it has since expanded to 62 counties throughout the state, according to UA Division of Agriculture website.
