Lovely County Citizen: Local News: Ron Radford Plays for Berryville Students (09/19/12)

Ron Radford plays flamenco at the first of two presentation for students at Berryville High School on Wednesday. He plays for Eureka Springs students Thursday -- parents are invited to the 9:30 a.m. program at the middle school --performs in concert Thursday at the AUD, and at the ES High School Friday.

When Ron Radford plays music, he lays his face on the wood of his 9-string guitar and closes his eyes. In his mind, he sees a flamenco dancer, heels tapping out the rhythm like a drummer. The job of the guitar player: to follow the rhythm of the dancer, whether slow, fast or faster.

"It's like the music is already going," he said. "When I'm on stage, I just listen, and then I dive in."

Radford was at Berryville High School Wednesday to tell band students how a kid from Tulsa became a flamenco guitarist. Then he showed them why he is considered world class.
