Ex Astris

Holding her orb aloft, Aza the goddess smiles down on Basin Spring Park at her lighting ceremony Friday night. Commissioned by Dan and Belinda Harriman, the statue was created by sculptor Bruce Anderson of Reed's Spring, Mo. At right is Steven Spencer, a Springfield, Mo., photographer, who was on hand to capture the moment. Aza's name means 'beloved one created of the stars.'

  • No doubt our conservative "friends" will weep and moan over this, but I congratulate the persons responsible for creating and displaying this beautiful work of art. To some, this might be idolatry, but many of us love and worship our deities every bit as much as others love and worship their God and Jesus. At the end of the day, all religions have the same code: Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. As for the hereafter, when we die all of us will find out who was right. Maybe everyone will be.
