Cynthia Dupps exhibition on display
Local artist Cynthia Dupps will be the featured three-dimensional artist for the month of May at the Eureka Fine Art Gallery. Dupps will be present during the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Art’s Second Saturday Gallery Stroll from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the gallery.
Dupps is a mixed media artist and jewelry designer. Her one-of-a-kind wears and sculptures have been exhibited at Crystal Bridges (The Massey) and various galleries and shops nationwide. Dupps’ whimsical designs draw from nature and re-purposed relics. Her latex series is called “myPods,” featuring 23 mixed media assemblages inspired by fairytales.
“Making something’ out of nothin’ is one of my first memories,” Dupps said. “It has been such an integral part of my life that I cannot imagine my days without beginning with some type of handiwork. Since childhoods, I have had a tare affection for repurposing materials.”
She continued, “Whether I was making small dwellings with alphabet blocks or collecting popsicle sticks for occupants, I still attempt to find a use for things that might be tossed aside by most. This endeavor comes somewhat easy to me but is also challenging. Very rarely do any items gifted or saved ever find their way to the trash.”
Born in Kentucky, Dupps graduated from the Louisville School of Art in 1970. She has worked in advertising, retail, the newspaper business and taught jewelry classes in Washington, Kentucky, Missouri, Virginia and Arkansas. She is a past board member of the Greater Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce and a past president/board member of the Eureka Springs School of the Arts.
The Eureka Fine Art Gallery is an artist-owned and operated gallery located at 2 Pine St. next door to Brews. The gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
