ADEQ, Legacy invited to Friday meeting

Wednesday, July 10, 2019

Representatives of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and Legacy Mining Co. LLC have been invited to a public meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday to discuss the mining company’s operations in Carroll County.

Residents in the Winona township say Legacy is conducting exploratory drilling on a 629-acre tract of land off of Rock House Road — near both Keels Creek and the Kings River — to determine the feasibility of establishing a limestone quarry on the property.

More than a dozen residents addressed the Carroll County Quorum Court at its last monthly meeting on June 17, expressing concerns over the potential impact of a quarry.

District 4 Justice of the Peace Marty Johnson arranged Friday’s meeting, which is scheduled to last from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carroll Electric Cooperative’s Community Meeting Room at 920 Highway 62 Spur in Berryville.
