Lake Leatherwood City Park's swim beach is still shut down.

Parks office manager Dove Bolerjack reported last week a sample taken July 1 showed low levels of E. coli, but the Arkansas Department of Health requires two such samples before the beach can reopen to the public. Tom Jones, senior environmental specialist with the Arkansas Department of Health, said Monday a second sample leaked in transit.

"That means they have to do another one," Jones said.

The City of Beaver Beach in Carroll County is also closed, Jones said, and will stay that way if the samples come in at the same level measured by the last sample. The last sample for the City of Beaver Beach came in at 410.6 E. coli, Jones said, more than three times the safe amount.
