Schichtl joins staff at paper
Haley Schichtl has joined the staff of Carroll County Newspapers as a news reporter.
A Conway native, Schichtl graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in journalism this summer. Schichtl worked for the school yearbook, The Scroll, for two years where she learned photography, reporting, writing and editing skills.
"I loved every bit of it," Schichtl said. "Part of it was my love for the small college community, which is why I wanted to live in a small town."
Minoring in art history taught her about history and culture, Schichtl said, and she put that to use during an internship with The Idle Class, a magazine that covers art, literature, music and theater events around Arkansas.
"That helped me become more comfortable working in the larger community of Little Rock," Schichtl said, "and I loved the work, though I still prefer the small-town feel."
“We’re glad to have Haley on board,” said Scott Loftis, managing editor for Carroll County Newspapers. “She impressed us during the hiring process and everyone we spoke to about her had wonderful things to say. I’m confident she will be a big asset for us.”
"Haley knows to ask the right questions and clearly has a passion for journalism," said Samantha Jones, associate editor for Carroll County Newspapers. "We're ecstatic to have her on our team."
Schichtl's primary beat will be city government and education in Berryville and Green Forest. She will also write general assignment features.
Schichtl lives in Berryville with her cat Yeti.
