ES Veterans Day Parade seeks participants, spectators
By Samantha Jones
The Eureka Springs Veterans Day Parade needs participants.
After the death of longtime parade organizer Sue Moore-Glave earlier this year, parade organizers are reaching out to the community for participation and help. Veteran Chuck Welch said volunteers are needed to help with the parade, saying all veterans are welcome to walk or ride in the parade.
"If a church group wants to get together and have a veterans group march," Welch said, "that would be great. We're just looking for volunteers and participants."
There won't be as many events this year, Welch said, with the welcome party and hamburger cook-off being canceled. Veteran Mike Warkentin said that's because it's impossible to pick up where Moore-Glave left off.
"A lot of people don't understand how much effort goes into this," Warkentin said. "[Moore-Glave] made it a year-long project and we're just getting started. We need as much help as we can get. Anything is welcome."
Tronnes said there would be no Veterans Day Parade without Moore-Glave.
"We're just grateful that she started it, because I don't think anyone else would have," Tronnes said. "She was the one who jumped on it and made it happen."
It's a big undertaking, Welch said, but he and his fellow veterans are determined to honor all the work Moore-Glave did over the years.
"We need help. We need participants," Welch said. "We need people on the sidelines watching. We need everything."
