Body recovered: Male’s remains found in Lake Leatherwood
A body was found at Lake Leatherwood City Park on Saturday, March 21.
According to a press release from the Eureka Springs Police Department, officers located a male body partially submerged in the lake. Because of the location of the individual, the release says, the Mennonite Search and Rescue Team responded with their air boat to assist in the recovery. Ultimately, the release says, the body was recovered without incident. The body was then transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for processing, according to the release.
The release says the Eureka Springs Police Department would like to thank the citizens of Eureka Springs and the Mennonite Search and Rescue Team for their assistance with the recovery. Eureka Springs parks director Justin Huss echoed that sentiment on Monday, saying he is grateful for the Mennonite Search and Rescue Team.
“They did a tremendous job helping with that,” Huss said. “Those folks are out there whether they want to be or not. It would have been a challenge without them.”
According to the release, this is currently an active investigation and there are no other details available at this time.
