Phone scams on the rise
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is seeing a rise in reports of telephone scams, according to criminal investigations commander Lt. Blake Ringberg.
“It is much like all the others,” Ringberg said by email on Wednesday, July 1. “Someone is calling saying that they are with Social Security, IRS, etc., and that there is a warrant for their arrest and they need to go get a gift card, put money on it and send the numbers to them to get the arrest canceled. At no time will any government agency call and request money over the phone or request a gift card for payment.”
