5 city council members file to seek re-election

Five incumbent members of the Eureka Springs City Council have officially filed for re-election.

According to city clerk Ann Armstrong, Terry McClung, Susan Harman, Melissa Greene, Bob Thomas and Harry Meyer have all filed for the positions they hold now. Armstrong said LauraJo Smole has filed to run for Ward 1, Seat 2 against Harman, with James Michael Seals running for Ward 2, Seat 1 against Greene and William Ott running for Ward 2, Seat 2 against Thomas. Autumn Slane is running for Ward 1, Seat 1 unopposed, and Meyer and McClung are both running unopposed.

Smole is currently the chairwoman of the Eureka Springs Planning Commission; her position on the planning commission is scheduled to expire on Jan. 1, 2021.

The window to file for a council seat closed at noon Wednesday, Aug. 5.

  • Interesting make up. Although they probably wouldn't admit it, it looks like it's going to be a pro tourism vs anti tourism election.
