Eureka Springs students who have opted for virtual rather than on-site learning can still get breakfast and lunch by stopping by the high school twice a week.

Debi Arnold, the nutrition director for Eureka Springs School District, said curbside pickup is available from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at the high school loading zone.

“On Mondays we hand out three breakfast meals and three lunch meals — for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — then Thursday, we hand out two breakfast meals and two lunch meals, for Thursday and Friday,” Arnold said.

To register to pick up curbside meals, parents can fill out a form on the child nutrition section of the school district’s website.

“It’s so we can get an idea of how many meals to prepare for pick up,” Arnold said. “It’s a one-time thing; they don’t have to fill it out every week. … If a family stops by that hasn’t filled that out, I just get some student information to verify in our system and get them the meals they need.”

Virtual students who are part of the food pack program, formerly called the backpack program, also can pick up their bags of food for the weekend along with the curbside meals on Thursday.

Counselor Patty Brill, who is in charge of the program, said the Flint Street Food Bank provides all the food. Volunteers put it in paper bags and deliver them to the schools. For on-site students in the program, Brill places their food bags outside their final class of the day for them to take home.

Brill said that for students to be part of the program, she just needs to hear from the parent that there is a need for the food.

For questions on curbside meal pick-up, parents can call 479-422-0291.
