Citizen of the Week: Mother Betsy Porter

Wednesday, December 23, 2020
Mother Betsy Porter is this week’s Citizen of the Week. Porter was nominated by Pat Gunn, who thanked her for spending a lifetime in service to her church and community. Last year, Porter retired as assistant vicar at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Gunn said, but her faithful service has continued without skipping a beat. “We consider Mother Betsy the guardian angel of St. James,” Gunn said. “Her gentle tone, calm and loving demeanor have established her as the mentor-in-charge. With her examples of faith, love and Christian service, we all strive to be better than we might have been.” To nominate somebody for Citizen of the Week, email Samantha Jones at
