Holiday events continue across county

Thursday, December 16, 2021

Several holiday events are scheduled over the next week in Carroll County.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, there will be an ugly Christmas sweater contest in Basin Park in Eureka Springs. Contest judging starts at 12:30 p.m. and the winner receives a gift basket filled with local goodies.

The Eureka Springs Community Gift Exchange will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce at 44 Kingshighway. The exchange is available for any resident of Eureka Springs age 16 and up. Participants are asked to drop off a wrapped gift at one of four locations: Eureka & Company at 1 Center St., Route 62 General Store at 2080 E. Van Buren, The Ladybug Emporium at 51 S. Main St. and the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce at 44 Kingshighway. Those who drop off a gift will be given a ticket to bring to the gift exchange on Dec. 19, where they will exchange the ticket for a random gift.

The Kiwanis Club and the Berryville Community Center have trees representing nonprofits available to vote on until Monday, Dec. 20. Each vote costs $1 and the tree that raises the most money wins. The proceeds are split between the winning nonprofit and Berryville Kiwanis programs to provide scholarships.

The Purple Flower is collecting toys for families in need through Monday, Dec. 20. Drop off wrapped children’s toys labeled with the age and gender of the recipient from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at 109 W. Church in Berryville. Walmart gift cards are welcome if you don’t have time to find a gift — The Purple Flower’s elves will pick something out and wrap it.

The Holiday Island Rotary Club will host a New Year’s Eve celebration on Friday, Dec. 31, at the Holiday Island Country Club ballroom. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. From 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., NWA Jazz and More Orchestra will perform live music. Pat Moore of Shasta Photography will take portraits when you enter and will shoot party photos throughout the night for purchase. Bring your own beverages. Setups and snacks will be provided. Tickets to the gala are $10 per person and can be purchased from Rotarians in advance or by calling Peggy Lodewyks at 479-244-9595. Proceeds from the event will go to Flint Street Food Bank, which has a critical need to keep its shelves stocked this winter.

All month long, the Great Passion Play features its Christmas Drive-Thru Light Display with more than 300 Christmas trees leading up to the Christ of the Ozarks statue. The display is open from dark until 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday until Jan. 1.
