James “Rusty” Rusterholz Jr. of Holiday Island has announced his candidacy for Carroll County judge.

“The decision to run I do not take lightly, but after serious consideration and discussions with family, friends, and a few community leaders,” Rusterholz said in a letter announcing his candidacy. “I feel that I have much to offer the citizens of Carroll County by continuing to do what I love and what I have done my entire career, serving the public.”

An Air Force veteran who also served in the Arkansas National Guard, Rusterholz is a retired law enforcement officer who worked for police departments in Gravette and Eureka Springs as well as the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

“I will be committed to serving ‘all’ the citizens of Carroll County and believe in transparency, financial responsibility and listening to the needs of our citizens,” said Rusterholz, 57. “Our path to success is driven by our community and its future.”

The county judge serves as the county’s chief executive.
