Florence Frances Schloss, age 82, of Ozark, Mo., died Saturday, July 14. She was born Dec. 11, 1924 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Hughes) O'Hara.
She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chicago. On May 10, 1958 she married Philip A. Schloss, Jr.
She served as a legal secretary for three Supreme Court Justices while living in Chicago.
She lived in Chicago until 1976. At that time she and her husband moved to Eureka Springs where they owned and operated The New Orleans Hotel. Under their supervision the hotel became a part of the National Historical Register.
Survivors include: five daughters, Carole Schloss of Alexandria,Va., Catherine Kendzior of Roselle, Ill., Christine Slack of Olathe, Kan., Lynn Hammer of Fayetteville and Mary Beth O'Hara of Ozark, Mo.; two sons, Philip A Schloss III and his wife Barbara of Des Plaines, Ill., and Robert Hammer of Fayetteville; a daughter-in-law, Poco Carter, of Eureka Springs; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003 and a son, Charles Hammer, in 2004.
A memorial mass and inurnment will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14 in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
