Stroll on down for the White Street Studio Walk

Monday, April 28, 2008

There are literally dozens of events associated with the May Festival of the Arts, but one grassroots event has come to be the heart of the festival arts scene and a grand old tradition in its own right.

The White Street Studio Walk will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. on Fri., May 16. Several artists' homes and studios line the portion of upper Historic Loop known as White Street, and the walk loosely stretches from WilloSpring Gallery near the top of Pine Street down just past Healthworks at the top of Mountain Street. For one evening only, resident artists will open their doors to the public, and many will also be hosting the work of additional artists as well. Catch a first glimpse of works in progress, or just catch up with old friends, either way, it will be a great evening. The event truly has a street fair atmosphere as those who appreciate art get a chance to chat with those who make it. Most artists will also have works for sale, so here's a rare chance to buy art directly from the artist, and have a great story to go along with it.

Parking is extremely limited on this stretch, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to park and walk.
