Smithhisler married Pam Hunt on April 15, 1978 and had three children, Kelsey, Jessica and David. The family lived on the Smithhisler farm for about 13 years before separating and moving to Harper, Kan.
He married Anna Oller from Spivey, Kan. on Dec. 31, 1995. They joined together a family of six children, including Kelsey, Jessi, Justin, David, Lisa and Kristen.
Smithhisler's hobbies included photography, bowling, mechanics, motorcycles, building model rockets and going to launches with his son David.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Anna of Anthony, Kan. and his six children: Kelsey Hazel and husband, Saige, of Anthony, Kan.; Jessica Wineinger and husband, Andy of Norwich, Kan.; David Smithhisler of Wichita, Kan.; Justin James and wife Monica of Corbin, Kan.; Lisa James of Greeley, Colo.; and Kristen James of Anthony, Kan.; his grandchildren, Veronica, James, Sage Brooks, Max and Jillian Wineinger and Austin Hazel; one brother, Gene Smithhisler and wife LeaAnn of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Lou McCaslin and husband John of Enid, Okla.; Nori Kane and husband Mike of Manchester, Okla.; and Ginny Hamilton of Eureka Springs.
