Top 10 ways to keep your cool in August

10. Look the part.

What, you didn't bring comfy shoes, a bathing suit, or even flip-flops? Never fear, we have stores for all those items, plus a few things in leather you might not have thought of. Either way, you'll look smashing.

9. Do it with art.

The best way to look totally "cool" is to buy art from our local galleries. Many of the galleries put you in direct contact with the artists, and what's cooler than hanging out with artists?

8. Feel the burn.

Hiking in August? Are we insane? Well, yes, actually, but take plenty of water breaks, and attack those trails in the morning when it's coolest. You'll find so many great photo ops, and you'll have your workout out of the way when dessert time rolls around tonight.

7. Live and learn.

Did you know the Trail of Tears passed by here? Or that outlaws once holed up in War Eagle Cavern? Or that the Crescent Hotel used to be a hospital and a girl's school, and still supposedly has a few otherworldy residents from that time? Get out there and learn enough trivia to make your friends envious.

6. Make a splash.

We have water everywhere, so why are you sitting in that car? Go jump in the lake of your choice, and cool down that inner child with some snorkeling, boating, fishing, whatever strikes your fancy.

5. Spend some cash.

The cool thing about shopping? Most of our shops have lovely air-conditioning. The coolest thing? They've also got lots of neat items that no one else carries, and they're already thinking about your Christmas list for you. How cool is that?

4. Tap your toe.

Anyone who doesn't think bluegrass and roots music is cool, obviously didn't see George Clooney in 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' Meeeeooooow. Check out the real thing at the Eureka Springs Bluegrass Festival this month.

3. See the show.

Get inspired by the drama at the Great Passion Play, or discover the best in local country music with the Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down. You'll laugh, you'll sing, you'll eat popcorn, it'll be a great time, and you might even have a few new favorite songs afterward.

2. Hear the vroom.

Check out the VW Weekend for hundreds of the coolest little cars around, then watch the parade for a truly painful game of slugbug. Hundreds of VW s will zoom, thousands of people will rub their arms for the rest of the day.

1. Get out of your room!

Yes, we know it's cool in there, but it's far cooler out here, with all the shops, restaurants, galleries, spas, music shows, museums, horseback rides, tours, swimming, boating, and so much more. We're surprised you can sleep at all. So get out here and explore all the wonders of Eureka Springs. We think it's the coolest town anywhere.
