The Opera Guild was organized 26 years ago to provide assistance and support for the summer opera festival and other music workshops held at The Point. The meeting is open to all who want to get a better understanding of the musical activities offered at The Point, from Opera in the Ozarks to piano, string and vocal camps. The Guild offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. A $10 membership fee supports Guild activities and provides scholarships for singers.
The membership meeting will offer a report on the past year's activities, a preview of this year's operas and a program of live vocal music featuring arias from the operas to be performed during the summer festival, and refreshments.
Sign-up sheets for various support duties will be available, including ushering at performances, office duty, distributing posters and rack cards, plus transporting singers and staff from the airport.
Members will enjoy a free opening night gala and performance. Opening night is June 18 and will feature Puccini's Tosca. Other membership advantages include free tickets to the matinee performance of Tosca at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville on June 27.
The 2010 Opera in the Ozarks summer festival will begin on Friday June 18. In addition to performances of Tosca, Carmen and Don Giovanni, the festival will offer chamber music concerts and "opera scenes." Performance schedules will be available at the March 7 meeting.
