Myrtle Elizabeth Scates of Eureka Springs was born December 29, 1931 in Ainsworth, Nebraska, a daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Sarah Ellen (Jessup) Abbott. She departed this life Sunday, May 8, in Eureka Springs at the age of 79 years.
Myrtle was a homemaker. She made the best venison steaks around. She loved reading books, dancing and watching movies with family.
On June 1, 1955, Myrtle was united in marriage with Ted Scates, who survives her of the home. She is also survived by one daughter, Martha Ellen (Charles) Fargo of Eureka Springs; four grandchildren, Marlene Fargo Bootenhoff and husband, David, of Tulsa; Frances Fargo Bloch of Eureka Springs; Greg Fargo and wife, Andrea, of Eureka Springs; and Paula Fargo Butler of Topeka, Kan.; two nephews, Ben Rivett and family of Eureka Springs; and Dennis Rivett and family of Berryville; one niece, Carol Scates Brown of Berryville; nine great-grandchildren; several grandnieces and grandnephews; several other family members and friends.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Harrison and Sarah Ellen Abbott; three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were May 11 at Nelson's Chapel of the Springs with Reverend Tim Garrison officiating. Interment followed in the Marshall Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
