Why we ran the list

Friday, November 9, 2012 ~ Updated 12:32 PM

Just in case our efforts to help keep the urban deer hunt as limited and by-the-book as possible -- by printing the addresses of approved hunting properties and the names of approved hunters, so no others could illegally "sneak in under the radar" -- have gone awry in the eyes of any readers around town, the Lovely County Citizen would like to emphasize that our running this information was in the interests of safety and legality, and not meant as fodder for those groups looking to harass any of the parties involved.

We sincerely hope the Occupy group and others opposed to the deer hunt will RESPECT the individual rights and liberties they claim to value so highly by honoring what's right and decent as the hunt gets under way, and we apologize to the hunters and property owners listed for any inconvenience. We'd also like to note that had the group now threatening to protest at these properties been so inclined, they could have easily gotten the same list we did through the exact same methods -- a mere phone call to City Hall -- since it is, after all, public information. Lastly, we say this: Shame on those who claim to uphold American virtues but do so through tactics of intimidation, incivility and fear.

  • Yea, that was pretty dumb.
