Opera in the Ozarks welcomes Nan Colton to Inspiration Point
Opera in the Ozarks is pleased to welcome actress, playwright and storyteller Nan Colton to Inspiration Point at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, July 7, for a special pre-opera character performance of 19th century novelist Louisa May Alcott.
Colton’s performance “The Woman Behind Little Women” is special entertainment prior to Opera in the Ozarks’ fully staged and costumed production that afternoon of the opera Little Women.
Colton, who has performed professionally on stages in the U.S., Great Britain and South Africa, will present an engaging half-hour character performance that delves into the life and times of Alcott. The beloved author created colorful, relatable characters in her novels and introduced readers to strong, educated female heroines. As a result, her writing style greatly impacted American literature.
A resident of South Florida, Colton has been the Performing-Artist-in-Residence at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg for the past 24 years, and produced and performed more than 40 original scripted presentations that explain the museum’s art and exhibitions.
Colton’s presentation replaces the previously scheduled Opera Talk and will include a short performance of songs based on Alcott’s poetry by Opera in the Ozarks vocalists and a piano performance of the sonata The Alcotts by Senior Vocal Coach Louis Menendez.
Opera in the Ozarks’ mainstage production of Little Women is at 2:30 p.m. Colton’s presentation is free to ticket holders.
