The Eureka Springs School District approved a budget of $11.485 million for the 2019-20 school year on Monday night.
Also at the meeting, the board agreed to hire Fayetteville-based company Legacy Construction as the new construction manager. Superintendent Bryan Pruitt said the company will be at the school to oversee building projects and will help the district keep within its budget.
“They’ll just be a watchful eye for us during building projects,” Pruitt said. “They’ll make sure people don’t overcharge us and we don’t overspend.”
In other business, the board approved a minority recruitment program. Pruitt said the program is meant to recruit more minority teachers to work at the school.
“Green Forest has many minority students and they go to career fairs and pursue minority teachers,” Pruitt said. “Here, our Hispanic population is up from 35 to 50.”
Pruitt said total number of students at the school has increased this year from 605 to 648.
The board also approved a schedule change for the food service workers, Pruitt said, allowing them to be paid to work in the cafeteria for special occasions like parent night or open house.
The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, in the administration building.
