Richard Raymond Gibbs
Richard Raymond “Dick” Gibbs of Holiday Island, Arkansas was born July 22, 1938 in Ft. Madison, Iowa to Ralph Walter and Alta Marie (Bond) Gibbs. Dick passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 in Bentonville at the age of 82.
Dick was a member of the Community Church on Holiday Island and attended the Baptist Church on Holiday Island. He was a past Exalted Ruler at the Elks Lodge #1042 Holiday Island, Arkansas. Dick was a fifty-two-year member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as a past Master at Lodge #13 in Fort Madison, Iowa 1974 and Riverside, Illinois Lodge #862 in 1984. He enjoyed refurbishing homes and bringing them “back to life.” Dick also enjoyed golfing, walking, RV’ing, traveling, visiting family, and he enjoyed playing guitar, and singing country music. He never met a stranger.
Dick is survived by his wife Waltraud “Wallie” Gibbs of the home; son David Gibbs and wife Bonnie of Bossier City, Louisiana; daughter Melody Cohen and husband Dennis of Ottawa, Illinois; grandsons Zack, David, Dustin, Jamie, Derek, Chad, Charlie; granddaughters Billie Jo and Kimberly; seventeen great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Sheila Gordon; several cousins and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley Gibbs; parents Ralph and Alta Gibbs; son Chuck Gordon.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Holiday Island Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Holiday Island Baptist Church, PO Box 3129, Holiday Island, AR 72631.
